Welcome to the Gap Year & Internships Recruitment section
Home > Recruitment Homepage > Gap Year & Internships > Selection Process
The selection process will differ depending on which placements you are applying for. Further details are shown below.
The selection process for internships and sponsorship schemes is the same as the main graduate round. Please click here for further information.
The website is open for PhD internship applications from mid-November to late January. Applicants should submit an application form and a supporting reference from their supervising professor. The selection is based on the application and a telephone interview, which will take place during February.
Sandwich students will have an interview and a test depending on which role they are applying for. Research assistants will undertake an excel test; project assistants and IT support staff will undertake an aptitude test.
Selection centres for Gap Year students take place approximately one month after the application closing date. The centres consist of:
- A group exercise, which acts as an 'ice-breaker' and is designed to test your communication skills.
- An interview, designed to talk through your skills and experiences both academically and relating to you as an individual.
- Aptitude tests, covering spelling/grammar, numerical awareness and decision making.
All offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references, security clearance, identity check, criminal record check, credit check, proof of qualifications and immigration clearance where appropriate. You will also be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.
